The OES program provides data on occupational employment and wages for states and metropolitan areas. In 1996 the survey was enhanced to provide:
· Data for metropolitan statistical areas
· Occupational wages for all occupations
· Coverage of all industries every year
Employment and wage information is collected for approximately 750 occupations. OES data is available for the 50 states, metropolitan statistical areas, up to four balance-of stats areas for each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. The data is published annually by BLS as well as the states in print and electronic media formats. The OES program produces consistent and comparable occupational wage information for all states and areas. OES data is an essential input for the state occupational and industry projections that are used to identify growing and declining occupations. This information assists employment and training planners, guidance and career counselors and others to match workers with jobs. The data are also used by the Employment and Training Administration's Alien Labor Certification (ALC) staff to determine prevailing wage levels.
