VIDOL LIFT Summer 2020 Program

“LIFT-ING OFF TO A GREAT START”

USVI-July 13, 2020- The VI Department of Labor’s (VIDOL) Labor Investing For Tomorrow(LIFT) Program held a virtual orientation for 19 program participants on July 1, 2020, via virtual meeting tools. Orientation included presentations by the VIDOL Division of Workforce Development, Occupational Health and Safety, and Human Resources. This year’s program features the option of a virtual project or role-based assignment that would include learning outcomes that expose interns to self-directed and prescribed career skills. Interns have opportunities to gain experience in the following agencies: University of the Virgin Islands, Public Works, VI Department of Labor, VI Police Department, Judicial Branch, and the Public Broadcasting Station of the Virgin Islands/WTJX.

VIDOL Commissioner Gary Molloy commented, “While the Department’s goals were to employ as many individuals as possible, we still remember that the focus is the safety of our participants. With the liability and responsibility, we have to protect our young people, we had to work within the framework of Government that assures a level oversight, especially when it comes to the Occupational Safety and Health of the LIFT Interns.”

Some of the summer projects include:

  • Developing a Social Media Strategy for the University of the Virgin Islands
  • Outreach and Strategy to Recruit and Attract Virgin Islanders Abroad to VI Job Opportunities
  • Developing Accounting Internal Controls Policies and Procedures
  • Developing a Marketing and Promotion Strategy for the Station to Raise greater awareness of program and offerings

Interns will be receiving a Pre-Assessment this week in the area of Project Management. Essentials of Project Management for the Non-Project Manager all-day training will be provided by the American Management Association (AMA) on Friday, July 10, 2020. Other trainings to be rolled-out within the eight week program include:
